Day 57 of 2017

February is almost over.
It's time to set up my bullet journal for March.

Day 56 of 2017

We had such a good time hanging out with GB#4 this weekend.
Here is a comparison picture from back when she was just starting on those curls.

Day 54 of 2017

Mom gave me some plants from her garden
and one has decided to bloom before I even get them in the ground.

Day 53 of 2017

If you were a child and you were sick, you might want your parents to take you here.
This children's hospital looks a bit like a castle.
And this is just the side view.  The front is even more colorful.

Day 52 of 2017

I meant to take a picture of GB#2 and GB#4 today but I forgot.
We were selecting fabric for the next round of sister dresses.
So instead here is a picture of the fabrics we have selected.
As always the navy blue is showing up as black.
It really is navy.  Maybe it will show up better in the finished dress.
Stay tuned.  Deadline:  Mid-April.

Day 51 of 2017

This new little bird ornament has found his place on the mantel.
he can stay there all year and then take his place on our tree next Christmas
before being put away with the rest of the ornaments.
The same goes for the little pumpkins
except that they will get put away with the fall decorations.

Day 50 of 2017

Just as I suspected.
With another week of warm weather and then a cool down with flurries forecast,
I fear for the beautiful buds.

Day 49 of 2017

Today Fireball called me outside because these guys were circling and being quite loud.
At times they were quite organized, circling and then splitting into two groups.
They would come back together and then circle again.
All the while they were slowly moving north.
I can only guess that they were migrating Snow Geese.
These are definitely not the geese we see here in the summer.

EDIT:  These are evidently Sandhill Cranes.

Day 48 of 2017

Spring.  It's not Spring.
It is forecast to be in the 60s for at least the next eight days.
While I enjoy this kind of weather, it is way too early.
I fear for my flowering trees.  They will be confused and begin to bud.
Then as the weather gets cold again, as I am sure it will,
the buds will freeze and my trees won't bloom.
It's just not right.

Day 46 of 2017

I've purchased some colorful envelopes to go with the notecards I cut from my calendars
I need to make this year the year of the handwritten note.

Day 45 of 2017

Each in its own spot.
I believe this is a working fountain in the warmer weather.
It looks like a black and white photo but it's not.
It's just the result of the glare of the afternoon sun.

Day 44 of 2017

A chilly but sunny day provided the perfect weather for some local construction.
I could have watched these guys lay cinder blocks all day but I had places to go.

Day 41 of 2017

I've made my first swatch.
I think there is no need to do another.

Day 40 of 2017

The view out my window this morning was lovely.
Just enough snow,
bright sunshine,
and a beautiful blue sky.

Day 39 of 2017

We are finally getting some season appropriate weather today.
Hello snow.

Day 38 of 2017

Both the first and last times I posted about this blanket were in 2014.
It is GB#3's welcome to the world blanket.
He will be three in June.
In August of 2014 I was just about finished with the body of it with just the borders left to do.
That is where the progress stopped.
I ran into quite a stumbling block as I tried to figure out how to border this.
Because it is done in stockinette stitch, the side edges curl to the back
and the top and bottom edges curl to the front.
I have tried two different edge treatments without success.
Being stumped as to what to do, I put it away, evidently for nearly 2 1/2 years.
Tonight I took it to my quilting meeting to try again.
After some brainstorming, I think I have come up with a suitable solution.
So now it is time to swatch a little to figure out the correct needle size
and whether I will use single or double yarn.
As always, I appreciate you wishing me luck
and hoping that the third time really is a charm.

Day 37 of 2017

A well-loved man.  Nearly 89 well-lived years.
Keeping friends in our thoughts tonight.

Day 36 of 2017

The last piece of fabric I loaded onto this backing has been quilted.
This time I did some freeform doodling.
I love the texture it created.

Day 35 of 2017

I really wanted to bake today.
Gluten Free gingersnaps fit the bill.

Day 34 of 2017

After the laundry room quilt was finished
there was plenty of backing and batting still loaded
so I found another very old UFO that actually looked nice with the backing.
It fit so I loaded it up and quilted it too.
Now there is still a little more room left.
I think I'll quilt another small piece of fabric
and use it sometime in the future for a little zippy bag.

Day 33 of 2017

As I arrived downtown for jury duty this morning,
the sun was just coming up.
As I left the building after being dismissed, just after noon,
the city was aglow with sunshine and blue skies.

Day 32 of 2017

Last night I got a chance to quilt the feathers on this little piece
and this morning I finished it up with the triangles.
When I get the binding done, it will adorn a wall in the laundry room.
