Day 150 of 2018

Here are two of the items I purchased last week while antique shopping.
The blocks in the finished 9-patch quilt measure four inches.
It is such a sweet quilt.
The orphan blocks will measure about five inches when they are finished.
I do love my treasures.

Day 146 of 2018

It's May and here in Indy we've seen a definite uptick in the helicopter sightings.

Day 144 of 2018

I went antique shopping with a friend today and got such a shock when I saw this
that I had to take a picture.
Here's the story.
Back in a lonely corner of an antique mall fifteen miles north of my house
I found stacks and stacks of issues of old LIFE magazines.
This issue was on top of one stack and I glanced at it quickly
so I could identify the woman on the front.
From my upside-down view I could see on the label that it was sent to the town
in which I lived for a very short period of time.
Being curious, I looked to see the name on the label.
Much to my surprise I recognized the name as my English teacher
from my last year of high school.
The date of the issue is November 16, 1953.
It had been later stamped as property of our local public library.

So this magazine was delivered to my former high school teacher before I was born,
made its way at some point to the public library in town,
and finally, sixty-five years and seventy miles later,
found itself in a place that I should discover it today.

To answer the question on a conversation-starter napkin we have in our kitchen,
THIS is the most outrageous thing I saw today.

Fireball and I are enjoying the nice evenings for neighborhood walks.

Day 141 of 2018

I've done a little wardrobe redo.
This is one of my favorite dresses,
but it was a bit too short for my liking.
The lace I added is from a shirt I bought on clearance
specifically for this purpose.
It cost way less than any lace I could have purchased at the fabric store.
I sure hope it looks like it does in my head as I intend to wear it tomorrow.

Day 139 of 2018

Two cedar waxwings were perched high in our side yard tree this afternoon.
The one on the left is showing you the little red spot on his wing.
(zoom in to see his spot)
Now the one on the left is into some serious grooming while the one on the right
finally decided to give me the profile picture I was looking for.

Day 138 of 2018

I am still stitching snowflakes.  This is definitely some slow stitching.
The snowflake measures about twelve inches in diameter.
The good thing about this one as opposed to the other two
is that this one is a continuous line from start to finish.
The only time I will need to stop is when I run out of the current piece of thread.
The bad thing is that I may be at it forever.
Only five and a half more spokes to go
and then it's back to the others to finish the inside cut-outs.

We got married 43 years ago today.
I love this guy more than ever.

A life remembered.
Lots of tears.

Day 134 of 2018

This puzzle is the first in a box of many I received for Mother's Day.
Let's see how it goes.
Done.  On to Puzzle number two.
This is going to be fun.

Day 133 of 2018

The evidence of a wonderful Mother's Day lingers on my kitchen counter.
There was much cupcake tasting, talking, coloring, encouraging, and running...
lots of running.

We missed all of you who were not able to be with us
and hope you had a wonderful day too.

Day 132 of 2018

Inspired by a beautiful serving tray I saw,
here is my next selection for the changing of the dishes.
The tray did not come home with me
but I took a picture as I was so taken by it.

It also just occurred to me that maybe I should start listing the colors I select
in my changing of the dishes posts.  Would anyone be interested in that?

Today a Mother's Day surprise was on my front doorstep.
Thank you!

Day 126 of 2018

I spied this folded book art at this year's Decorators' Show House.
I may have to try it.

Day 123 of 2018

Six double-sided fairytale fabric napkins, each with a different back.
I know I have said it before, but I really love my serger.
It bears repeating.

Day 122 of 2018

Redbud.
This is one of my all time favorite trees.
We used to have one on the side of our house until it died and had to be removed.
Now there is one near the corner of our house, not far from the original site.
I'm not exactly sure if we planted it or it just appeared.
I'm not exactly sure how long it has been there,
but it is a bit hidden by an overgrown hedge and each year when it blooms,
I am both surprised and delighted.

Day 121 of 2018

My first iris of the year really snuck up on me.
It is hiding among the leaves of the other irises and is barely as tall.
I never even saw a bud,
but what a beauty it is.
