Day 210 of 2019

It's not exactly a quilt in the wild, but I will consider it as such.

Day 209 of 2019

There are huge thunderstorms overhead
but I can see clear skies coming our way.

Day 208 of 2019

This is certainly not the prettiest picture I took today,
but it certainly was the funniest and most perplexing one.
Can this really be considered plumbing?
Does one usually hold things together with a rag tied around parts?
I am skeptical.

Day 207 of 2019

Another day, another cupcake.

(She never really eats them, just picks at the icing a little)

Day 204 of 2019

As cute as top number two was going to be with this flounce,
the fit is not going well and I am going to have to abandon it for a while.

Day 203 of 2019

My muslin from yesterday came out pretty well.
It will be wearable when I finish the neckline and armholes.
In the mean time, I watched three videos and
then made three alterations to my pattern
to fix three nagging issues,
after which I cut out new fabric and completely constructed this shirt.
I am very happy with the fit of this one and will definitely be making more.

Day 202 of 2019

I'm sewing something for myself,
and I'm making the muslin out of a thrifted shirt.
That way, if it works out, I'll have a something I can actually wear.

Day 200 of 2019

I was looking through a box today and found a folder of loose pictures.
This is my maternal grandmother.
She and Mom look so much alike.
Mom and me in 2010.

Day 199 of 2019

Fireball and I received some "happy mail" today from GB#1.
Among the drawings and colored pictures she sent
was this tea towel with self portraits of each of the students
in her grade at her school
and portraits of the teachers done by some of the children.
I just love it!
Can you pick out GB#1?
It's a pretty accurate drawing.
Here she is.

Each child also wrote their names under their drawings
which I have smudged out to protect their privacy.

Day 198 of 2019

I occasionally have to iron clothes.
For this I have an over-the-door ironing board.
I press quilt blocks on a flat surface which doesn't work as well for clothes.
The cover that came with the board, the blue and white one in this picture,
came pre-spotted and has a terrible, thin foam padding
which is attached to the cover fabric making it non-replaceable.
So today I finished making a new cover.
I made the pattern based roughly on the old one
and added two layers of cotton quilt batting.
I'm sure I will be much happier with my new set up.

Day 197 of 2019

I'm always seeing quilts or quilting.
Here I see quilting, and it would definitely be ruler work.

Day 196 of 2019

Our tickets arrived today.
It's hard to believe it's really almost football season again.

Day 195 of 2019

There is a new exhibit at The Children's Museum called Ancient Greece.
There are so many beautiful objects to see
and most of them remind me of quilts or quilting.

Day 194 of 2019

Little lost bird in the garden, then on the deck needs a little rest.

Day 193 of 2019

When I go to Symphony on the Prairie
I expect to see musicians, people, picnics and much more.
The last thing I expected to see tonight was the Vince Lombardi Trophy
for the Colts 2007 Super Bowl win, but there it was, the real deal.

Day 192 of 2019

It's hard to believe that just a few weeks ago that the ground was so squishy
from being so saturated we could hardly walk in the yard.

Day 191 of 2019

Fireball and I spent the day with GB#2 and GB#4 and their parents
at a hands-on science and technology center.
It is the best kind of place in which the kids think they are playing
but the adults know they are actually learning.
Of course, the adults played and had fun too.

Day 190 of 2019

Now this is a first.
This turkey vulture was spied by Fireball across the street.
I have always thought they were the creepiest birds I have ever seen,
but I read this little piece about them
and figure I should probably change my perception of them.

Day 189 of 2019

On at least three occasions today I spied momma birds feeding their little ones.
After I finished my deck cleaning for the day,
I sat down at a safe distance with my camera to catch some of that sweet mothering.
As you have no doubt guessed by now,
the only birds to come to the feeder while I had my camera were individuals.

Day 188 of 2019

Here is the second set of blocks I found when we traveled north a couple weeks ago.
Again, there are forty-two blocks.
The variety of fabrics is fabulous.
I have one more quilt top to show you that I got at the new-to-me stop,
but it will have to wait until I figure out the best way to photograph it.
It has issues.
You'll understand when you see it.

Day 185 of 2019

Mushrooms.
I love the look when cut.
I'm not a fan when they are on my plate.

Day 184 of 2019

Fireball and I took a little trip out of town on Sunday.
On the way home we stopped at a new-to-me antique mall.
I was delighted to find a few old Barbie clothing patterns and brought this one home.
There are ten outfits in total in this pattern
but it was the red coat that caught my eye and convinced me
that this was the one I needed.

Day 183 of 2019

The day lilies, which are lovely this year, are upstaging my porch furniture
which needs refreshing.
Paint chips are displayed so I can see the colors in all the lights of the day.
I can't wait to see them in the morning.

Day 182 of 2019

We've finally hit the 90s.
During outdoor activity, frequent breaks are encouraged.
