Day 183 of 2026

The volunteer walnut tree next to our deck 

has started producing fruit for the first time

 after years of growing. 

I suspect it will be a mess below, 

but it has finally become a great source of shade 

so I'm not complaining...yet.

 

Day 92 of 2026

Everything is growing so fast now. 

I believe I should have a redbud in full bloom tomorrow.

 

Day 82 of 2026

We are in Seattle now and our goal is to see all the flowers. 

While this isn't the greatest concentration of cherry blossoms on campus,

 it is my favorite of the pictures I took today. 

On a clear day you would be able to see Mt. Rainier in the distance. 

It was gray and cloudy today but if you look very closely, 

you can see a faint outline of the mountain.

I got a tree decorated today.

 

Day 337 of 2025

There is going to be a super moon tomorrow, 

but tonight's moon was very big and bright. 

One can never be sure if the weather will cooperate,

 so I thought it was a good idea to get a picture tonight.

I seem to catch this view at least once every year. 

It's hard to not take the picture again.

This tree is almost at my favorite stage

 in its fall color progression. 

Give it another couple days.

Fireball and I are cleaning up after finally

 getting the tree, in the background next to the ladder,

 that was damaged in a storm in June trimmed up.

While I was up on the ladder, I also cut out all the dead limbs I could find. 

The job took much longer than I had imagined it would.

 

Day 213 of 2025

Evidently our ginkgo tree has a dead limb somewhere. 

It is throwing parts of it down on our shade structure to let us know.

 

Day 169 of 2025

A storm blew through this afternoon. 

We were out and about and had to wait it out to come home. 

There was a lot of rain but we saw first hand how damaging the winds were. 

On our way home we encountered a tree across the road

 for which we had to turn around and take another route, 

uprooted trees, tree limbs all over yards and roads, 

and traffic lights that were not working. 

Upon arriving home we found that we had no power. 

Limbs from far away trees were strewn all over our front and back yards. 

Our own trees fared pretty well with just a few small limbs down 

with the exception of this hawthorn 

which lost close to a third of its fullness in the break it suffered. 

We'll start clean up tomorrow after the rain is done

 and the puddles have receded a bit.

 

Day 89 of 2025

The Bradford pear has just bloomed and now we are expecting severe storms. 

I especially like the combination of the white blossoms and the dark gray sky. 

I hope the high winds don't cause too much damage here.

Last spring Fireball and I planted a new tree. 

This spring it has graced us with blooms.

 on this beautiful but chilly official spring day.

I know it's too early but I'll be keeping a close eye

 on these leaf buds on the ginkgo tree.

for my annual fall photo.

One of my two favorite trees in fall. 

I think I take at least one picture of it each year. 

Later it will be all yellow and take my breath away.

Fireball and I have planted a new tree in our front yard. 

I found it extremely hard to get a good picture of it. 

I tried turning every direction and there is no direction

 that doesn't have other trees in the background. 

Hopefully you can see it well enough.

 I'll try again with different photo techniques

 and post another photo if I can figure it out.
