Day 42 of 2025

I am working on looking through my bins of WIPs. (Works in Progress)
Some projects will not be finished and are getting dismantled.
The fabrics I still like will get put back on the fabric shelves.
Things I do not intend to keep are headed for a designated donation spot.
This is a set of blocks that I do intend to finish.
At the time I put it away I had decided to split the blocks up
and make two smaller quilts.
The original pattern called for small borders around each block
 before sewing them together.
The blocks on the left were going to be my "yellow" quilt
and the blocks on the right were going to be my "pink/aqua" quilt.
I've decided to put them back into just one quilt.
I did a bunch of rearranging today
and have an idea where I am headed with this one
but probably won't show you until the top is sewn together.

Day 207 of 2024

I've pinned paper triangles over my low temperatures
for most of February and March to see how a couple options might look.
I may try a couple other options too.
I'll live with these for a while before making a decision.

Day 206 of 2024

Well, I finished my March house and connected the first row
 of the 2024 temperature quilt.
I have to tell you that I'm not crazy about it so far.
Because I decided I wanted to represent both the high
 and low temperatures each day,
the houses are looking too busy for my taste.
Or maybe it's just because I'm not liking the color combinations
in the March house in particular.
Maybe if I keep going I will like it better
as the colors change in the warmer months.
I'll be giving this some serious thought for a while
because at this point in the process
I would still be willing to remake the main portions of the houses,
but if I go much further on this path, I may not.

Day 68 of 2024

The stack on the left in yesterday's post turned into this cutie.

Day 67 of 2024

I'm beginning to not mind trimming these squares.
It's a good thing since I will be doing so many this year
 for the temperature quilt.
These pretty ones are for another project.

Day 66 of 2024

My temperature quilt blocks are coming along.
The left is January and the right is February.
If you go back to my other "temperature" posts,
you can compare the January blocks
and see that I did replace one of the fabrics.
I am happy with this decision.
Here is a little more information about the set up of the blocks.
The house facades depict 30 days of the specific month.
If the month has 31 days, that house gets a tree in the yard.
Since my quilt will have both high and low temperature blocks,
I have split the tree in the same manner as the house blocks.
Since February has only 29 days,
I have added something special in the empty spot.

Day 53 of 2024

As promised, here's a picture of the finished Hemingway Pouch.
I have to say that this was a quick, fun and easy make.
The pattern has four sizes.
This is the large which measures 9" x 12".
This will definitely not be the last one I make.
Below is the link for the pattern in case you'd like to make one too.

Day 52 of 2024

I am taking part in the Hemingway Pouch sew along.
It's only four days long and tomorrow is the last day.
I made this quilted panel in a longarm class in June of 2017.
I have been trying to figure out what to make with it
for as long as it has been sitting around in my studio.
What better use than to use it to make my pouch.
So since the first day was cutting fabric and getting it ready for quilting,
I could skip that day.
The second day was actually quilting the fabric so I skipped that day too.
Today was attaching zipper binding and the zipper.
I was waiting for an order of zippers to arrive
so this ended up being a non-participating day also.
So tomorrow is the day.
I will be starting and finishing my Hemingway Pouch.
Be on the lookout for a "finished" picture.

Day 49 of 2024

I had hoped to have a picture of this entire block done
but that was not to be.
I did get the tree section complete
and all the house rows done before I stopped for the day.
I ended up attaching two rows together with one of them upside down.
I have since taken them apart, pinned them together correctly
and pinned the next two rows together.
I'm now set up for success the next time I sit down at my machine.
I learned a long time ago that once I start making mistakes,
it's usually time to stop for the night.

Day 48 of 2024

The temperature quilt is going well.
Although I don't have the January days pieced yet,
I have managed to get all twelve roof segments
and seven tree trunks put together.

Day 41 of 2024

On Monday I found sixteen of these blocks.
After talking to Little E,
we determined these were her blocks from a group exchange.
She gave them to me when she moved,
not needing her quilting projects.
I have been looking all week as I go through the studio
to find my blocks from the same exchange.
I finally found them today and have combined them here
to make a bigger quilt than I had originally planned.
I have made notes as to my thoughts
on the new arrangement and how I intend to finish it.
(exchange November 2009)

Day 37 of 2024

I haven't gotten to any quilting yet this month
as I am cleaning up my studio,
the space in which I do the actual sewing.
Today I came across the quilt top I was talking to Fireball about
which I will show you tomorrow,
but I also found these orphan blocks.
This was my very first quilt, a rail fence.
I believe these pieces aren't actually blocks
but the cut off ends of the strip sets.
I think I'll square them up and stitch them together
 into a small table runner.
Maybe while I'm working on it
I'll remember why I drew pencil lines on them.

Day 283 of 2022

On Saturday, I was at the quilt show later in the day near the end of the show.
At one point an announcement was made:
Fill a small bag for $5 or a large bag for $10 from the guild shop.
Well, I am a superb bag stuffer and brought home so many goodies for $5.
This sandwich-sized zip bag full of tiny tumblers, all cut and ready to go,
was just one of the treasures.

Day 281 of 2022

Thank you all for being patient with me
and to those who reached out to see if everything was ok.
It didn't occur to me until today
that I could have commented on the last post to explain.
Future me might remember this if I ever have trouble again.
My computer had been giving me trouble for a while
and I intended to warn you ahead of time that if I went silent for a while,
that was most likely the cause.
Of course, I was not quick enough with that message
and my computer stopped performing the functions I needed in order to post.
So here we are with a new computer loaded with all my old stuff
and me trying to learn all the new things
that have come about in computer land in the last eleven years.

This day I went to a quilt show put on by our local quilt guild.
Besides all the beautiful, new quilts on display,
one of my very favorite things is to see the old quilts
 on display in various places.
This one caught my eye in a vendor booth.
I asked permission to take this photo,
which the vendor graciously granted.
We had a good conversation about this.
In case you don't know, it is never okay
to take pictures of or in someone's booth.
Sometimes the vendor will grant permission
to take a picture of a quilt on display
 if the pattern was purchased.
Otherwise, you are taking advantage
of all their hard work without compensation.

Day 206 of 2022

The final four.
There won't be enough room on my design wall
until I shift a few things around
so here they are stacked upon one another.

Day 205 of 2022

The trimming is all done
and the real construction of the last four Swoon blocks can begin.

Thursday, July 21, 2022

Day 202 of 2022

Swoon block number two is done as are numbers three, four and five.
I'm going to have to find a large space to get a photo of all the blocks together.
Four more will make the nine I need.
They should go faster now that I have a few of the kinks ironed out.

Day 197 of 2022

It's the third day in a row to post a picture of this quilt progress,
but today I used a new-to-me method for cutting half square triangles apart.
Camille Roskelley (designer of this quilt) posted this tip
so I had to give it a try because there are so many triangles.
I have to say it worked really well.
