Day 60 of 2024

I went to a quilt show today and this was one of my favorites on display.
Below is the maker information and the quilt description.
What a fun mystery quilt this must have been to make.

Day 59 of 2024

I've made my February temperature squares
with the exception of the 28th and the 29th.
I'm also considering swapping out one of the fabrics I picked
 for a certain temperature range.
I think it contrasts too much with the other colors around it
and gives the wrong impression of what temperature it might indicate.

Day 58 of 2024

Fireball and I decided to hang out at the book store
 after dinner tonight.
I was surprised to see all the Easter things out,
but I'm not mad about this colorful display.

Day 57 of 2024

Back in April I solved the cube for the first time
by watching and following an instructional video.
I've been doing pretty well at solving it with the help of the video.
Lately I have been trying to memorize the moves
so I don't have to keep referring back to the video.
I have finally memorized a couple of the steps
but still struggle with others.
I decided to watch the steps on the video again and again
so I could take my own notes.
I think it may help as it is in my handwriting and easily referenced.

Day 56 of 2024

Last year while while making a better path to the water faucet for the hose,
I had to dig out some dirt in order to lay my pavers
and flat rocks close to ground level.
In the process I thought I had lost the crocuses
that I enjoy and take pictures of every winter as they emerge before spring.
Today I was pleased to discover that in my digging I did not lose my flowers
but only replanted them a few feet away from their original spot.

Day 55 of 2024

The moon was either way too bright
or the sky was a weird color,
so instead I settled on a very grainy picture
of the full moon with a spooky mood.

Day 54 of 2024

I forgot that today was going to be a bonus for the SAL.
We were given directions to make a mini pouch
with the leftovers from our original pouch.
I had a couple of scraps that I put together
and got a good medium sized pouch.
Mug in the picture and yesterday's pouch are for size reference.

Day 53 of 2024

As promised, here's a picture of the finished Hemingway Pouch.
I have to say that this was a quick, fun and easy make.
The pattern has four sizes.
This is the large which measures 9" x 12".
This will definitely not be the last one I make.
Below is the link for the pattern in case you'd like to make one too.

Day 52 of 2024

I am taking part in the Hemingway Pouch sew along.
It's only four days long and tomorrow is the last day.
I made this quilted panel in a longarm class in June of 2017.
I have been trying to figure out what to make with it
for as long as it has been sitting around in my studio.
What better use than to use it to make my pouch.
So since the first day was cutting fabric and getting it ready for quilting,
I could skip that day.
The second day was actually quilting the fabric so I skipped that day too.
Today was attaching zipper binding and the zipper.
I was waiting for an order of zippers to arrive
so this ended up being a non-participating day also.
So tomorrow is the day.
I will be starting and finishing my Hemingway Pouch.
Be on the lookout for a "finished" picture.

Day 51 of 2024

I hope I don't sound like a broken record,
but here is my completed January block for the temperature quilt.
Each square of the house facade represents one day in the specified month.
The original pattern calls for only the high temperature for the day
paired with a common background fabric.
I have decided that I'd like to document
 both the high and low temperatures for each day;
therefore, I am placing the fabric for the daily high in the upper spot
and the low in the bottom spot in each square.
I am excited to see how the colors change
in the upcoming months as the temperatures gradually increase.

Day 50 of 2024

I'm a little late but I made these coasters for Fireball for Valentine's day.
He plans to leave one at home and take one to the office.

Day 49 of 2024

I had hoped to have a picture of this entire block done
but that was not to be.
I did get the tree section complete
and all the house rows done before I stopped for the day.
I ended up attaching two rows together with one of them upside down.
I have since taken them apart, pinned them together correctly
and pinned the next two rows together.
I'm now set up for success the next time I sit down at my machine.
I learned a long time ago that once I start making mistakes,
it's usually time to stop for the night.

Day 48 of 2024

The temperature quilt is going well.
Although I don't have the January days pieced yet,
I have managed to get all twelve roof segments
and seven tree trunks put together.

Day 46 of 2024

I've started on my temperature quilt roofs.
Does this look like a chimney?

Day 45 of 2024

Valentine's Day dessert.
This was one of two I made.
Most of the second dessert has been saved for later.

Day 44 of 2024

Congratulations to Summer Lee on the release of her first book.
I love her sock patterns and
my preorder arrived a day early.

Day 43 of 2024

This picture comes with a huge thank you to Fireball
who told me to stop what I was doing and go look at the sky.
I did.

Day 42 of 2024

I've got my quilt and a bingo card.
It's a quiet night in, watching the game.
I finally got a bingo near the end of the game.

Day 41 of 2024

On Monday I found sixteen of these blocks.
After talking to Little E,
we determined these were her blocks from a group exchange.
She gave them to me when she moved,
not needing her quilting projects.
I have been looking all week as I go through the studio
to find my blocks from the same exchange.
I finally found them today and have combined them here
to make a bigger quilt than I had originally planned.
I have made notes as to my thoughts
on the new arrangement and how I intend to finish it.
(exchange November 2009)

Day 40 of 2024

I believe I put the origami hearts up last weekend,
but I've been so focused on the studio that I keep forgetting to take a picture.

Day 39 of 2024

I'm still working on the studio clean up.
Today I found the bag in the bottom right corner of this picture.
I thought maybe it had a project in it but that was not the case.
It contained lots of scraps.
Some of them are relatively recent,
but others are from projects I made a long time ago.
I'm sorting now so they can go into my color bins.

Day 38 of 2024

Here's the quilt in question from my conversation with Fireball.
We were trying to come up with a good winter palette
for a scrap quilt I plan to make.
I have lots of scraps.
This top still needs borders.
I have struggled with what to do for borders because
the border in the original pattern did not appeal to me.
When I found this yesterday, I found that I had decided on a border,
done the needed math and cut the fabric pieces.
Originally intended to be a Christmas quilt by the pattern maker,
I chose these colors so I could hang it in my hallway in January,
M's birthday month.
I think this one might go on the short list of tops to finish.

Day 37 of 2024

I haven't gotten to any quilting yet this month
as I am cleaning up my studio,
the space in which I do the actual sewing.
Today I came across the quilt top I was talking to Fireball about
which I will show you tomorrow,
but I also found these orphan blocks.
This was my very first quilt, a rail fence.
I believe these pieces aren't actually blocks
but the cut off ends of the strip sets.
I think I'll square them up and stitch them together
 into a small table runner.
Maybe while I'm working on it
I'll remember why I drew pencil lines on them.

Day 36 of 2024

Here's a full shot of this quilt top so far.
The maker, my secret pal, gave me plenty of extra fabric
so I will be working out a colorful border for the quilt.
I am also planning to audition other options
to fill the spot where I placed the "S" I made.
It doesn't seem to fit the style.

Day 35 of 2024

Fireball and I were talking about quilts tonight.
I was mentioning the color scheme of one in particular that has yet to be finished
and he couldn't picture which one I meant.
So later I went to find it to show him and couldn't find it.
I'll look again tomorrow.
I did find this one though.
It was a secret exchange in which I received the blocks
and then put them together myself.
I thought the hearts were appropriate for the month
and thought you'd appreciate seeing it.
Maybe I'll get a chance to show you more of it.

Day 34 of 2024

Fireball and I had an exhausting day,
but he can sleep anywhere, any time.

Day 33 of 2024

I changed the dishes.
Up until today they were still in Christmas mode.

Colors used: White, Scarlet, Flamingo, Peony and Claret

Day 32 of 2024

A few days ago I mentioned that when it comes to quilts,
I get things done more often if I join a quilt along (QAL.)
I've decided to join in with Tiffany of Village Bound Quilts
as she hosts 2024 Finish It Quilt Along.
It will last the entire month of February
so be prepared to see lots of progress pictures.
I've decided this snowman quilt will be the first thing I will work on.
He's been loaded and basted for longer than I can remember.
I'm a bit nervous but I'm sure it will be fine.
It always is.
