I really love heart and house quilts. 

I found this new-to-me quilt book (©2016) at Half Price Books tonight 

that includes one of each and several more quilts that appeal to me 

for less than the cost of one pattern. 

I consider this quite a bargain.

The Monday holiday has thrown my laundry schedule all off.

I'm back at my LEGO set.

After yesterday's rain and this morning's clouds, 

the afternoon turned into a sunny one. 

Fireball and I took advantage of the beautiful weather and went for a walk. 

I was amazed how close the planes coming in to land

 at the airport on the other side of town look. 

I had a hard time deciding on today's picture.

Day 147 of 2024

This storm caused the rain delay for the Indy 500 today. 

The race was run hours later and because of the delay,

 it was broadcast locally. 

This is not normal. 

It is usually blacked out in the area 

and then re-broadcast later that evening for us.

Fireball and I had a very busy yard day. 

One of my tasks for the day was to move these three ferns

 from a side of the house that I rarely see,

 where they were being swallowed up by the surrounding grass and weeds. 

I think they are going to like this new location. 

If I see great improvement, I'll share more pictures.

Leftovers. 

I may not look pretty but it made a delicious breakfast.

Cooking. 

Red pepper, green pepper, onion, tomato, chicken, spices. 

Roast until cooked down and charring. 

Serve with scratch-made queso blanco. 

Yum.

Most of the flowers that Fireball gave me for Mother's Day 

were way past beautiful and found their way to the trash today. 

These are the last two that still have maybe a day or two  left in them. 

I will enjoy them until they just can't hang on any longer.

I've finally started on this LEGO set 

I received as a Christmas gift in 2022. 

I hope to finish it this week.

A piece of mail came to the house  that looked like a greeting card. 

It turned out to be an advertisement and a coupon. 

I have always loved saving cards that have colors that appeal to me. 

I save them to refer to when I need to pick out a palette for a quilt or,

 more recently, knitted socks. 

I'm saving this one in particular not only because i really liked the colors, 

but because it has color combinations that I would not normally think to use.

I took a cutting from a plant of mine

 as it was growing all the way down to the floor. 

I put it in water hoping roots would sprout. 

It took a long time but it has happened. 

I should probably plant it soon.

Big D and I were just talking about Blue Jays at the bird feeders. 

This morning I happened to catch a couple

 who visited several times for quite a while.

Fireball and I took a walk today for Mother's Day at Holcolm Gardens

 on the campus of Butler University. 

It was beautiful and we got to hear the bell tower 

(officially Holcolm Memorial Carillon) chime twice. 

It makes such a beautiful sound.

I'm finding top secret things in the garage.

Mother's Day is Sunday. 

I received a package containing an early gift today. 

The colors are beautiful and the candle smells amazing.

This is the last of the iris colors that I have in my yard. 

It's such a hard color to photograph, 

but this turned out true to color.

My girl with the long hair wasn't doing very well 

and her hair had started to thin. 

I moved her to a new location near the window

 and now she has lots of new growth and a crazy, spiky new hairdo.

I'm trying to incorporate some new habits into my days. 

While I really enjoy listening to audio books, 

I do have some hard copy books in my possession 

that I'd like to read. 

I've decided to add reading of these into my routine. 

I picked just ten minutes for the time I will spend. 

I could read longer if I want and time permits,

 but my goal is just ten minutes. 

It doesn't sound like much but it will be quite effective.

To Scott: 

No, it's not too early for irises to be blooming. 

I looked back at the iris pictures on the blog from the last 12 years

 and I have pictures of them anytime from May 7th to May 27th. 

We had a rather warm and wet April here  

so that may have contributed to this year 

being on the earlier side of the range. 

But too early? 

I don't think so.

Fireball and I have planted a new tree in our front yard. 

I found it extremely hard to get a good picture of it. 

I tried turning every direction and there is no direction

 that doesn't have other trees in the background. 

Hopefully you can see it well enough.

 I'll try again with different photo techniques

 and post another photo if I can figure it out.

Today R and I went to visit the finished Decorators' Show House. 

This dining room was giving me the best simple, elegant, fall vibes.

I needed to enlarge the pink curve so I used the grid method. 

I remember my mom using this method to enlarge patterns from magazines

 to make dolls and other crafts. 

Every pattern was printed on the page with a grid overlay. 

It was just something you learned to do. 

It worked very well for my curve today.

 

Day 122 of 2024

I'll be out of the house early tomorrow. 

This is usually not the case. 

I don't usually have to know what I'm going to wear

 on a particular day until that day arrives. 

I'm trying to remember to use the "rule" 

I had for my kids when they were little. 

Decide what you are going to wear to school tomorrow 

and set it out. 

For me this means ironing this shirt tonight. 

Done.
