Day 72 of 2025

I finished a quilt top today that has been languishing in a UFO bin

 in a closet in my studio for years. 

I'll pick a backing from my stash 

and put them together in the queue for quilting.

 

Day 38 of 2024

Here's the quilt in question from my conversation with Fireball. 

We were trying to come up with a good winter palette 

for a scrap quilt I plan to make. 

I have lots of scraps.

This top still needs borders. 

I have struggled with what to do for borders because

the border in the original pattern did not appeal to me. 

When I found this yesterday, I found that I had decided on a border, 

done the needed math and cut the fabric pieces. 

Originally intended to be a Christmas quilt by the pattern maker, 

I chose these colors so I could hang it in my hallway in January, 

M's birthday month. 

I think this one might go on the short list of tops to finish. 

 

Day 37 of 2024

I haven't gotten to any quilting yet this month

 as I am cleaning up my studio, 

the space in which I do the actual sewing. 

Today I came across the quilt top I was talking to Fireball about

 which I will show you tomorrow, 

but I also found these orphan blocks. 

This was my very first quilt, a rail fence. 

I believe these pieces aren't actually blocks

 but the cut off ends of the strip sets. 

I think I'll square them up and stitch them together

 into a small table runner. 

Maybe while I'm working on it 

I'll remember why I drew pencil lines on them.

 

Day 36 of 2024

Here's a full shot of this quilt top so far. 

The maker, my secret pal, gave me plenty of extra fabric

 so I will be working out a colorful border for the quilt. 

I am also planning to audition other options

 to fill the spot where I placed the "S" I made. 

It doesn't seem to fit the style.

 

Day 32 of 2024

A few days ago I mentioned that when it comes to quilts, 

I get things done more often if I join a quilt along (QAL.) 

I've decided to join in with Tiffany of Village Bound Quilts 

as she hosts 2024 Finish It Quilt Along. 

It will last the entire month of February 

so be prepared to see lots of progress pictures. 

I've decided this snowman quilt will be the first thing I will work on. 

He's been loaded and basted for longer than I can remember. 

I'm a bit nervous but I'm sure it will be fine. 

It always is.

 

Day 204 of 2020

Next UFO is up on the wall. 

This was a sew along with Stitch Supply Co. in 2018. 

I participated for the first ten weeks 

and then had to stop due to family matters. 

I have 80 blocks done with 52 left to go. 

I learned a lot from the Mugs quilt sew along I just finished. 

I know that I get overwhelmed by making decisions. 

Trying to pick fabrics every week for the current blocks 

and then making them is too much for me. 

Once I figured this out, 

I decided to pick all the fabric for the remaining blocks. 

What a difference that made. 

Each week all I had to do was cut and sew. 

To finish this quilt, called Village, 

I am not only picking all the rest of the fabrics, 

but I am also cutting all the pieces. 

I have selected 38 more and have begun the cutting. 

I will select the rest tomorrow. 

This method lets me sit down to sew a little with whatever time I have 

without having to first make major decisions.

Day 203 of 2020

I've finished the Chicken Star quilt top. 

I'm thinking about bindings, left and top, 

even though it will be a while before this gets quilted. 

I also feel like this border may be a bit wide so that might get cut down.

I'll be taking this off the wall tomorrow

 so I can put up a couple more UFOs.

Day 196 of 2020

I have worked on at least four different projects today. 

Here I've started auditioning fabric and design ideas 

for the UFO chicken star blocks. 

I think I am very close to finalizing decisions on this one.

Day 192 of 2020

Back in March I pulled these UFO blocks out to figure out how to finish them. 

They came off the wall when I started the Mugs Quilt Sew Along.  

I put it back up after the sew along and completed the top today. 

I've selected a potential fabric from my stash for the back

 and put them together in the queue for quilting. 

I am calling this the rocket quilt.

Day 64 of 2020

For the last several years my quilting group has had a UFO challenge

 beginning in February and ending sometime in late spring. 

I have been trying to figure out which projects I'd like to concentrate on. 

With this quest in mind, I have been looking through my bins that contain my UFOs. 

I found this one today. 

I still think it's fun, but I'm not really interested in making any more blocks

 so I will be working on a solution with what I have done. 

Then I'll decide if this is the year for this project.
