Day 192 of 2024

I'm trying to get some home projects done here
instead letting them stay stuck in the 90% done phase.
Still to be done:
Prep and repair surrounding wall,
paint same wall,
prep trim, cut trim, install trim,
finishing caulk,
reinstall over door shelf

Day 76 of 2023

You know I love building things and seeing how things are built.
I saw this slant-roofed "grill gazebo" and had to see how it was made.
I took a couple pictures.

Day 63 of 2024

Besides a good power wash, the deck needs a bit of repair.
It has come to our attention recently that the two boards
which I have removed were rotten.
Upon closer inspection, it appears that I will need to remove more boards
to determine exactly how much will need to be replaced.

Day 143 of 2022

This space used to house our grocery store.
It has been vacant for many years.
I am excited to see that it is being transformed into something else.
I am curious to see what that something will be.

Day 26 of 2022

Fireball and I went to the home show today,
and while there were many lovely things to see,
this was probably one of my favorites.

Day 289 of 2021

I'm doing some wedding building today
and I am reminded that the first cut is always the scariest.

Day 235 of 2021

I woke to construction sounds this morning.
After some investigation, I found that our neighbors were having something built.
The builders were quite efficient
and before long it was evident that it was a mini barn.
It was complete by late afternoon.

Day 151 of 2021

The blue line has been snapped
and I'm about to cut loose with power tools.

Day 277 of 2020

DIL, R, requested help with a build for her upcoming birthday.
Today she learned how to use the compound miter saw.
It was a good day.
Result:  Four finished benches for around the fire pit at her home.

Day 234 of 2020

My last haircut was in October.
My neighbor needed a better way to support a board for skateboarding purposes.
Today we made a trade.
I built the ramp support and she cut my hair.
I feel it was quite a fair trade.
I think she feels the same way.

Day 168 of 2020

Today was the last day before it gets unbearably hot this week,
so Fireball suggested we finish a partially made project
we found in the garage the other day.
The wood was mostly all cut but not assembled.
We finished it in pretty quick order so we continued on to project #2.
This one had been talked about and roughly designed for some time
and even had some casters purchased.
We made it up as we went and used wood we already had on hand
that was previously intended for other projects that never got built.
I am very happy with how it turned out.
Here is the problem that this little rolling cart solved.
Every time we wanted to use the miter saw,
it took two of us to bring it out of the garage, onto the driveway.
It is quite awkward, heavy, unbalanced and difficult to do.
Now the saw sits nicely in the cart with casters.
It only takes one person to roll it out for use.
The front two casters lock for safety.
As a bonus, the shelf below can hold other items,
in this case the air compressor and accessories.

Day 151 of 2020

Day 4 of the Big Build.
It wouldn't be right for me to not show you the completed product.
Yes, it's done.
I think I can speak for everyone on the build team when I say
that this brings a great deal of satisfaction to say we built this ourselves.

Day 146 of 2020

Day three of Big Build.
I'm calling this "Almost Done with Modern Yellow Tube Art Installation."

Day 145 of 2020

Day two of the big build.
Upstairs floor, climbing wall, grip handles, monkey bars,
roof and all its supports,
kitchen counter, sink and stovetop,

Day 144 of 2020

We're helping on a building project this weekend.
It's been a while since I've done a build and I am wiped out.
Hopefully we can finish it up tomorrow.
GB#3 will be so happy.

Day 260 of 2019

You know how I love construction.
Well, this has been going on for a while and I am a bit perplexed.
There are three of these taller portions along this strip.
Neither of the other two are being worked on.
I can't figure out if they are making a style change
or there was some kind of structural problem
prompting them to redo this section.
I guess I'll find out when they are done
or if I stop and ask a worker if I am back in the area.

Day 257 of 2019

Do you remember this building I posted in June?
Well, this is the progress that has been made in the last three and a half months.
It appears there will be no conventional exterior walls, just lots of glass.

Day 158 of 2019

A local construction project already has its flag and Christmas tree on top.
