Day 90 of 2022

I own scraps from most of the quilting and other sewing projects
I have made over the years.
I have heard and read about many ways to organize scraps
including keeping bins of certain sizes of cut pieces.
This seemed like a reasonable method which I implemented
until I found that I never use the scraps in that manner.
I decided to sort them the way I like to see my fabrics- by color.
I have sorted them into various plastic bins and baskets of the appropriate colors.
I love this system but still have scraps in all sorts of other places.
I finally found containers that were consistent in shape and size
and with a few exceptions, in all the colors I need.
So today I have started gathering all the fabric scraps from their various places
and sorting into my new bins.
In the process I came across this selection.
These are from a favorite quilt top I made but is not quilted yet.
Seeing these scraps made me very happy.
I will be making the quilting of it a priority.
I'll show you when I do.

Day 89 of 2022

It felt like late spring today with temperatures in the upper 70s.
My daffodils enjoyed it very much.
Unfortunately, the temperatures will be below average for the next few days.

Day 88 of 2022

The flowers I got to celebrate Mom keep getting better each day
as they continue to open up.

Day 87 of 2022

I like it when I find extraordinary things in ordinary places.

Day 86 of 2022

This is my third attempt to find a sock I enjoy working on.
I think we have a winner.

Day 84 of 2022

As it seems a tradition now,
we are celebrating the anniversary of Mom's birth with cake.

Day 83 of 2022

Today I stopped at a new-to-me antique market.
I saw this quilt on the wall and just wanted to stare for a long time.
The fabric is very worn and torn and the colors have bled,
but I like it very much.

Day 81 of 2022

I needed to change my sewing machine needle tonight
to start a different kind of project than the last.
I tried using the magnifying glass
to read the size on the needle to no avail.
I put the needle in an older style needle case
which has the magnified ends also with no luck.
Finally I took a picture of the magnified needle
with my phone camera and zoomed in.
It worked perfectly.
In this photo I was trying to read the top needle.

Day 78 of 2022

There is a neighborhood cat that belongs to no one who comes around.
This morning he/she didn't hang around as we were leaving the house,
but sometimes he/she cozies up on the mat and stays a while.

Day 77 of 2022

According to past blog posts
it's been about a year since I've worked on this scarf.
I have put my sock knitting aside in favor of working on this for a while.
I really need something that takes way less brain power.
The last time I showed this scarf it was 29 inches long.
Today it measures 36 inches.
I am working with the goal of finishing these two balls of yarn
so I can start the next two.

Day 75 of 2022

A very large distribution center caught fire today.
This picture was taken eight hours later from about 30 miles away.
It will likely still be burning in the morning.
All 1,000 employees are safe and uninjured.
One firefighter was injured but treated
and returned to continue to fight the blaze.

Day 73 of 2022

Old fashioned sodas seem to be very popular at hardware stores.
I enjoy seeing the blast from the past, especially the Bubble Up.

Day 71 of 2022

Long story short -
I tore out the other sock.
I started a new one.
I'm liking it so far.
Stay tuned.

Day 69 of 2022

I remember as a child going to visit my grandmother
(estimated to be about 60 years ago)
and being fascinated with the velvet pillows
that seemed to be folded in such amazing ways.
Some were similar to this and some were round.
Today I found both styles for sale at a home goods store.
I guess everything old really is new again.

Day 68 of 2022

My new sock is going very slowly.
I'm having a hard time knitting more than a few rows a day.
My yarn is doing this twisting thing
and the pattern is not showing up as I thought it would.
I am seriously considering tearing this back to the ribbing
and starting a different design for the main area of this pair.
There is no reason to waste time doing something I don't enjoy.

Day 67 of 2022

These jeans are old.
I have had them at least eight years.
They have already been patched and relegated to building, painting and cleaning duty.
Today the fabric next to this seam gave out.
I could get rid of them but since they are such great working jeans,
I will put the time into mending them.
I have yet to decide whether it should be visible or invisible mending.
I'll let you know.

Day 66 of 2022

A couple days ago Fireball brought me flowers.
They are opening up nicely
and are even more beautiful than they were when I got them.
And, yes, I know that Fireball is definitely a keeper.

Day 64 of 2022

I've debated which project to start next
and have decided to cast on more socks.

Day 63 of 2022

As you can see, my method for keeping track of rows while knitting
is quite neat and scientific.
But seriously, I prefer to keep track on paper.

Day 62 of 2022

One done.
It might have been two but for the toe that I had to do over
because I forgot to change the yarn back to the navy blue
on the first try.
The second sock will likely be done tomorrow
as I am currently working on the toe
due to the method of working in stages on both socks
instead of one whole sock at a time.

Day 61 of 2022

The temperature has been a bit warmer the last couple of days.
I should not have been surprised to see the crocus blooming this morning.
Upon closer inspection, I found that the irises and daffodils
are also pushing up out of the ground.
