Day 103 of 2026

The hydrangeas got trimmed today as well as bed clean up,
brickwork finished  and topsoil added.
Only mulch and cutting some half bricks to go.
I even got the forsythia cut back.
It was a good day.

Day 101 of 2026

I should have trimmed the hydrangeas a few weeks ago,
but I didn't.
I'm hoping to trim them tomorrow, but first I have to find the pruners.
And maybe I should clean up the bed.

Day 63 of 2026

It looks like spring really is on its way.
I guess it's time to get out my small rake
and clean out last year's leaves.

Day 118 of 2025

The azalea I bought and planted last year
is putting on quite a show this spring.

Day 110 of 2025

On the first of two hikes today,
Fireball and I found a military cemetery from 1864.
These beautiful cacti were just on the outside of the cemetery wall.

Day 11 of 2025

I got this plant a couple years ago and it was blooming at that time.
This is the first time it has bloomed since then.

Day 237 of 2024

It was May when I last gave an update on this girl.
She is still loving the window placement
but the summer sun has been a bit drying.
I repotted her with a second pot under the first to hold more water.
It seems to have helped but overall the pot is still too small.
I hesitate to fill the entire planter with soil
but it may be my only good option
as the roots barely fit in the current one.

Day 231 of 2024

I checked on my dahlias today
and if I can keep the rabbits, chipmunks and squirrels
from eating this little bud,
I might get to see my first one bloom.

Day 219 of 2024

I planted some dahlias very late,
but eleven of my thirteen pots have some promising growth in them.
I keep a check on them as often as possible
I'm hoping that at least some of them get the chance to bloom
before they need to be dug up and saved over the winter for next year.

Day 210 of 2024

I think this may be the last hosta to bloom.
I'm glad it's blooming.
It's a very large one I split into three and moved in early spring.
One can never be sure if a transplant will bloom that year.
I have been very lucky this year.

Day 170 of 2024

Another recent transplant has decided to flower,
and it looks like I'll have a few more in the next few days.
This plant hadn't bloomed in several years in its former location.

Day 169 of 2024

I planted a couple coneflower plants next to my mailbox last summer.
I had been checking to see if they would reappear this year.
They did and I have recently begun checking for buds.
Today I finally saw some.
I'm so excited to see these in bloom again.

Day 162 of 2024

The last of the sunlight illuminates
the last few leaves and the deck railing.

Day 158 of 2024

The ferns I transplanted a couple weeks ago
appear to be doing well
as there are new fronds appearing as fiddleheads this week.

Day 146 of 2024

Fireball and I had a very busy yard day.
One of my tasks for the day was to move these three ferns
from a side of the house that I rarely see,
where they were being swallowed up by the surrounding grass and weeds.
I think they are going to like this new location.
If I see great improvement, I'll share more pictures.

Day 140 of 2024

I took a cutting from a plant of mine
as it was growing all the way down to the floor.
I put it in water hoping roots would sprout.
It took a long time but it has happened.
I should probably plant it soon.

Day 129 of 2024

My girl with the long hair wasn't doing very well
and her hair had started to thin.
I moved her to a new location near the window
and now she has lots of new growth and a crazy, spiky new hairdo.
