It occurs to me that I have never read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. 

A little over a month ago I found an older copy of it at Half Price Books. 

It was not as long as I had always imagined so I bought it.

I have started reading it one short chapter at a time. 

Tonight was Chapter 2.

We got a pink sky for the first sunset of fall. 

I consider it a gift 

considering the very summer-like temperatures.

The forecast calls for 90 degree temperatures for the next four days. 

Fall begins tomorrow.

I could really use some fall weather.

Day 263 of 2017

Today was a road trip day.  

I took Mom to a surprise location.  

About three quarters of the way there she finally figured out where we were going.  

We picked up my sister, 

whom we don't see very often, and had a very nice outdoor lunch 

after which we drove to a nice park by the river. 

We ate, chatted, marveled at the great bridges, saw other parts of the city, 

took silly selfies, and got caught in a very noisy thunderstorm.  

It was a great road trip day.

We still have flowers in the neighborhood and a crazy hot week in store,

but the leaves are changing and official fall begins on Friday.

I tried another new-to-me recipe tonight. 

The main ingredients are cauliflower, chicken and sweet potatoes. 

I will definitely make it again.

GB#3 is singing along with the band.

He was so excited when they began singing "Heartbreak Hotel."

It's one of his favorite songs.

While taking Mom to do some errands today 

I was able to get a couple of my own errands done too.  

I bought a new presser foot for my machine (#63 is a zigzag hemmer foot) 

and some red netting and tulle.

For those of you who own Bernina sewing machines and don't know, 

Bernina is having a sale through the 17th of 25% off on all its presser feet.

I finally sat down and finished the binding on this quilt 

that Little E pieced and began the quilting on her sewing machine.  

I finished the quilting for her on my longarm 

and have been working on the binding in little bits.  

Tonight it's off my list.

The weather lately has gotten me into the fall mood. 

Evidently, September first is the meteorological start of fall, 

so I don't feel so bad changing out the dishes.

I'm not feeling well today so I think a cup of tea is in order. 

On a happier note, my new phone case arrived today. 

It makes me smile.

On our walk this afternoon, 

I saw a hawk flying low enough to try a picture. 

By the time I could get my camera out, 

he was too far away. 

Fireball saw a butterfly fly up into the tree above us. 

I decided to give that a try.

I made something else too,

Like northern Michigan in late September fall.
