Day 146 of 2026

Fireball and I did some assembly today 

and are now ready to provide some ice cold drinks 

at our next family get together.

 

Day 145 of 2026

This is one of the two fruit boards my DIL and I collaborated on 

for our Memorial Day and Indy 500 family gathering. 

They were a big hit.

 

Day 144 of 2026

We went to our first farmer's market of the season 

and were still there when the vendors 

started breaking their booths down.

 

Day 143 of 2026

We went out late in search of specific things. 

The above items were not found,

but we did find the stores quite free of crowds.

 

Day 142 of 2026

I feel like these socks are coming along like

 The Little Engine That Could. 

I'm done with the heel flaps 

and these adorable little pink heel turns on both socks. 

Now I am going to be chugging away

 at the gusset decreases for a while, 

but I know if I keep chugging, I'll get there.

I'll let you know when I get to the straight foot section.

the picture yesterday shows magnetic water balloons.

We're having a family gathering on Sunday. 

I'm hoping the weather is nice so we can use these.

Day 140 of 2026

I've been seeing a lot of peonies in bloom lately. 

I finally got a chance to get a photo of one. 

It has been raining a lot here lately 

and the extra weight of the water on these large blooms 

always drags them down. 

I don't have any in my yard, 

but always love to see them out and about.

We had thunderstorms today so I took the opportunity 

to listen to a book 

and work on my mending project.

 

Day 138 of 2026

Fireball and I have been married for fifty-one years.

We had a great day together planning some backyard projects, 

grocery shopping and having an anniversary dinner out. 

Exciting. I know. 

But we have fun hanging out together 

and find ourselves laughing a lot. 

Maybe that's the secret of 51 years -

 hang out together and laugh.

There are lots of end of the year things happening.

GB#2 has worked very hard in her choir performances

 and received this peer voted honor 

at today's choir award banquet.

I'm gearing up for all the flag related summer holidays 

with a slow transition of seasonal items. 

Dishes will be coming soon.

 

Day 135 of 2026

I love this restaurant floor. 

I can see this as a quilt using striped fabrics. 

I can also see some of those stripes coming from my scrap bins.

After eating our dinner here near this floor, 

Fireball and I went to see our eldest perform 

in a production of Kiss Me Kate. 

It was such fun!

 

Day 134 of 2026

GB#5 is officially a preschool graduate 

and will start kindergarten in the fall. 

She was pretty excited that we were both wearing red.

 

Day 133 of 2026

I've had a hard time getting back to my red socks 

after finishing my Musselburgh hat. 

I'm back to it now 

and have finished the heel flap on sock number one 

and have started the flap on the second one. 

I'm hoping to finish these pretty quickly 

as the weather is getting warmer

 and I have outdoor projects I'd like to get done this year. 

Of course, I also have other knitting projects in queue

 that I'd like to get to.

 

Day 132 of 2026

I am very much a rule follower 

and because of that I find it hard to understand

 what I came upon at this intersection. 

The light is red and the two cars at the front

 are both completely beyond the white line

 behind which we are required to stop. 

This puts them entirely in the crosswalk, another big no-no. 

I guess I just don't understand people.

 

Day 131 of 2026

The annual Decorators' Show House visit for us was today. 

Although beautiful and beautifully done, 

this was not one of my favorites over the years. 

I didn't find many practical ideas to bring home 

and there were no landscape or garden areas designed or displayed. 

I did find that I was inspired by the colors of some of the artwork 

and this was one of my favorite design elements in the house.

My Purple Clematis is blooming again.

We're back at the theater. 

This one's pretty easy. 

The show was very good, the performers were all excellent 

and the voices were amazing.

A new round of mending requests has come in.

GB#6 comes to Grandma's house.

It was a very rainy day filled with errands, 

a dentist appointment 

and then more errands. 

Even so, I still found something lovely.

I've been trying to change it each day to reflect my activity

Yesterday GB#5 wanted a picture of us on my phone.

I wore my sandals today, 

not because it was really that warm 

but because it was warm enough 

to hope it will be warm more consistently in the near future.

Easter has come and gone, 

but I'm still hanging on to my pretty eggs.

Once upon a time I used to do cross stitch. 

That was before I really got into quilting. 

This pattern is (was?) a Suzy's Zoo pattern. 

I'm pretty sure it is in this booklet. 

I'm also guessing there are more copies of it 

around on the internet.

The signs outside say BUY SELL TRADE. 

If there ever was a movie you wanted to buy, 

this would be the place to find it.

 

Day 115 of 2026

Late this afternoon I got a severe weather alert on my phone.  

Shortly after that the local sirens went off indicating a tornado warning. 

The storm was fast to come and fast to go. 

Later I saw videos of swirling debris taken from motorists. 

Even later I read that there might have been a tornado 

along a road Fireball takes home from work. 

Luckily, he had taken off early and was already home.

 

Day 114 of 2026

Now that the hat is done, I'm back at my socks.

 I completed three more pattern repeats

 and started the heel flap today. 

It has not been hard to jump back into. 

I'm trying to be better at finishing things

 before I cast on a new thing. 

Sometimes it cannot be avoided.

I finally finished the knitting of the Musselburgh hat. 

I am so excited about it.

 Tomorrow I'll block it and figure out a way to show you

 the four different ways to wear it.

I went to the back yard

 to check out the progress on my lilac bush. 

While most of the buds are not open, 

there are buds covering the entire plant 

and the fragrance is amazing.

It was fast, funny and fun.

Last week the washer and the dryer needed repairs. 

This week the water heater needs replacing. 

It must be the season for appliances.

Well, here we are again. 

It's date night. 

I'm sure by now I don't have to ask Where am I? 

because clearly it's the theater.

I haven't done my puzzles since before Monday

 when I became so ill. 

I am feeling much better now 

and feel I'm ready to tackle them again.

My repairs are done.

 One subtle, one Frankenstein style.

I'm feeling much better this afternoon 

so I have started some stuffed animal surgery. 

I couldn't finish it though as a nap was needed.

I didn't feel very well most of the day and then it got worse. 

I spent the evening in the ER. 

I should be feeling better in a couple days.

 

Day 103 of 2026

The hydrangeas got trimmed today as well as bed clean up, 

brickwork finished  and topsoil added. 

Only mulch and cutting some half bricks to go. 

I even got the forsythia cut back. 

It was a good day.

 

Day 101 of 2026

I should have trimmed the hydrangeas a few weeks ago, 

but I didn't. 

I'm hoping to trim them tomorrow, but first I have to find the pruners. 

And maybe I should clean up the bed.

 

Day 100 of 2026

GB#2 sang a solo/duet tonight in front of a large crowd. 

What courage and confidence that takes. 

She and her singing partner did very well. 

I am so proud of them. 

 

Day 99 of 2026

I am within an inch of beginning the decreases

 of the other end of this hat. 

That sounds like a good time

 to show you my color inspiration. 

In the foreground is my hat. 

The background contains one of my favorite, 

ready-made scarves.

Quite a while ago I pulled colors from my sock yarn stash 

that were as close as I could get to the originals.  

My initial intention was to make striped socks, 

which I may still do,

but then this hat pattern came to mind from my mental queue. 

I don't know if I will ever wear the hat and scarf together,

 but it feels good to make another item 

that contains all these happy colors. 

Side note: I don't wear long scarves much anymore. 

I rather prefer a cowl so I may connect the ends

 at the proper length to make that happen. 

Second side note: The blue and blue with black sections 

are for the reverse side of the hat. 

It will make sense when I show you the final project.

Today's sunset is from the bridge over the highway. 

When I turned to go back to the car, my legs went all jelly on me. 

That was not fun.
