Winter advice: wool beats cotton in very cold weather; function over fashion (i.e. forgo the "gaps" in coverage). Mostly melted now, but we had 18" of snow in just a few days starting on Christmas and low temps in the single digits, highs in the teens for a few days. All at 300' above sea level!
