Day 274 of 2025

I put terra cotta watering spikes in two of my planters yesterday.
The idea is to put the hollow spike into the planter
 down to ground (dirt) level
and then put a wine bottle full of water, upside down into the spike.
This morning when I left the house
I found one planter pushed off the porch
and the bottle broken on the porch and the walk.
I suspect an animal did the damage, most likely a raccoon.

  1. Raccoons can be very destructive critters and I say this with first hand experience. Do you think the color of the wine bottle attracted them?

    1. I have had lots of trouble with raccoons. The bird feeders are an especially tempting item for them. I suspect it may have been the water they were going after.

  2. Raccoons set up shop at our dock and in our boat years ago. Momma raised her litter on top of the dock floatation, then moved them into the boat (it was covered) while we were away. I won't go into the details but it was a horrible mess to clean up. Good luck.
