Day 301 of 2022

I clearly have a thing for small white salt and pepper shakers,
but while they are all technically functional,
they are all terrible at their jobs
unless you like mountains of salt on all your food.

Day 299 of 2022

Out my window this morning I spied this glorious view.
The yellow tree is the ginkgo (not my spring favorite, Scott)
which is beautiful both fall and spring.
Behind it, the red tree, is my one remaining Bradford pear
which is my favorite in the spring.
But just now as I am writing this,
it occurs to me that I may have two more trees in the yard
that would surpass the pear for spring favorites.
They would be the redbud (and here) and the pink dogwood
I love the flowering trees the best.

Here is a bonus fall picture.
After I had already taken the previous picture in the morning,
I saw this in the afternoon. It was too pretty to ignore.

Day 298 of 2022

A box came yesterday which neither Fireball or I had any idea of its contents.
It was addressed to him so he opened it and said, " Oh, it's for you."
I guess the packaging was not as he expected.
I told him I would have to find some books to put between the bookends
but that the machine would certainly get longer.
He said that's when it becomes a longarm.

Day 297 of 2022

The pockets are the same size.
I'll be pinning them on the sweater tomorrow and get this project done.
I am much happier with this fourth version.

Day 295 of 2022

I moved a lot of stone today and my gloves show it.
There were no holes at the beginning of this work.
I'm thinking I should mend these gloves as they are my favorite.
I have a container of leather scraps I bought at the thrift store
 that should come in handy.

Day 294 of 2022

Earlier this month I started knitting some pockets.
After a while I could tell that they weren't coming out well
so I ripped them back to the ribbing and started over from there.
Yesterday I pinned one of the resulting pockets on my sweater
and determined that it was way too small.
Tonight I ripped out both pockets I had made and started another.
Third time's a charm, right?
Wrong.
I cast on the wrong number of stitches and the pocket is still too small.
Tomorrow, or another day that I can fit it in,
I will rip this one out and try (hopefully) one last time.

Day 293 of 2022

To answer the question about my owl on the mantle,
here is the bottom of his base with as much information as I have.
I did a google search and never once came up with even an image
of the exact one I have.
(I have just searched again with the number on the top portion of the sticker shown here. Lots more information is available. It is retired, but it seems some are for sale.)
I can't remember exactly where or when I bought it
but it had to have been 2005 or later, but before it was retired.
I have several Jim Shore pieces including a few large Santas and a snowman.

Day 292 of 2022

I've said it before but I'll say it again.
This is my favorite tree in the yard when fall rolls around,
and it's looking gorgeous on this glorious day.
I have a different favorite tree in the yard in the spring.
Do you know which one that is?

Day 291 of 2022

Here are a few more things I got in my $5 bag
at the quilt show a couple weeks ago.
I'd like to start on a couple of these things right away,
but I've declared October Take Back the House and Yard month
so I'm trying really hard not to get too distracted.

Day 289 of 2022

It's game day again and rather than give you the same pictures as usual
and today's outcome was a win,
I thought I'd give you a picture of Fireball and me.
I had hoped to get us and the stadium name in the picture,
but since it was so windy it was very hard to see what was in the frame.
This is the best I could do.

Day 288 of 2022

It was nice to see some fall still exists at stores
with so many Christmas displays already.

Day 287 of 2022

This was my view all day.
After finding out from the Apple Store that my old computer was too old
for them to migrate my computer's content to my new computer,
we took it home where Fireball did the migration for me.
It worked all night but was successful.
There was an issue with IDs and passwords
which, after an hour and a half phone conversation
with a very knowledgeable support tech,
 was able to be resolved.
So after a few more glitches which I still need to work on,
I finally got to upload photos, draft all my missing posts,
and now post them all for you...and me.

Day 286 of 2022

This seems to be the prevailing color scheme
for decorative Christmas trees this year,
at least at the home improvement store.

Day 285 of 2022

The first row of stones is finally down.
Our maple tree is quite golden as is the one across the street.
Leaves are starting to really fall.

Day 284 of 2022

I made a trio of bags for a birthday gift for R.
The two larger ones are free patterns on the Tilda website
that came out to accompany the Windy Days fabric line.
The small coin purse is made from an Amy Butler pattern from 2007
 called Stash & Dash Bags.
I'm not sure if it is still in print.

The large and small bags are made from canvas by Andover,
and the medium bag is made from Rifle Paper Co. canvas fabric.

Day 283 of 2022

On Saturday, I was at the quilt show later in the day near the end of the show.
At one point an announcement was made:
Fill a small bag for $5 or a large bag for $10 from the guild shop.
Well, I am a superb bag stuffer and brought home so many goodies for $5.
This sandwich-sized zip bag full of tiny tumblers, all cut and ready to go,
was just one of the treasures.

Day 282 of 2022

Taking a walk.
Fall is definitely here.

Day 281 of 2022

Thank you all for being patient with me
and to those who reached out to see if everything was ok.
It didn't occur to me until today
that I could have commented on the last post to explain.
Future me might remember this if I ever have trouble again.
My computer had been giving me trouble for a while
and I intended to warn you ahead of time that if I went silent for a while,
that was most likely the cause.
Of course, I was not quick enough with that message
and my computer stopped performing the functions I needed in order to post.
So here we are with a new computer loaded with all my old stuff
and me trying to learn all the new things
that have come about in computer land in the last eleven years.

This day I went to a quilt show put on by our local quilt guild.
Besides all the beautiful, new quilts on display,
one of my very favorite things is to see the old quilts
 on display in various places.
This one caught my eye in a vendor booth.
I asked permission to take this photo,
which the vendor graciously granted.
We had a good conversation about this.
In case you don't know, it is never okay
to take pictures of or in someone's booth.
Sometimes the vendor will grant permission
to take a picture of a quilt on display
 if the pattern was purchased.
Otherwise, you are taking advantage
of all their hard work without compensation.

It's time to make the pockets for the long sweater, two at a time.

Day 279 of 2022

My game day nails finally had to go.
Here's what I'm thinking for my next manicure.
